Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for the development and management of a safe, comprehensive facilities construction program in accordance with department and hospital policies, local, state and national codes. Responsible for the coordination of internal and external construction processes and practice. Coordinates construction functions with departments and outside resources and ensures projects are carried out through individual or cooperative efforts. Responsible for the initiation, planning, implementation, and commissioning of large and small projects.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  2. *Develops overall project implementation strategy which meets the expectations of all impacted customers.
  3. *Develops and manages overall project safety and compliance plans.
  4. *Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the construction, renovation and/or repair projects for buildings, grounds and facilities to ensure efficiency and compliance with project specifications.
  5. *Monitors and ensures project quality.
  6. *Develops total project cost and manages costs within the approved plan.
  7. *Writes specifications for materials and workmanship to be utilized by contactors or in-house trades in all phases of the project.
  8. *Develops and maintains project schedules.
  9. *Regularly interacts with and maintains good working relationship with internal customers, architects, subcontractors, material suppliers and all members of the project team.
  10. *Identifies and proposes solutions which provide the best overall value to the hospital.
  11. *Leads coordination, pre-installation, pre-construction, and subcontractor coordination meetings.
  12. *Provides progress updates for active and planned projects.
  13. *Reviews and maintains materials and documentation regarding change management, project cost control and submittals.
  14. *Coordinates project closeout.
  15. Operates applicable hospital equipment.
  16. Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education in-services, reading periodicals and literature and seeking ongoing development opportunities.
  17. Delegates work and authority appropriately.
  18. Enters restricted access areas, without supervision, to perform assigned work.
  19. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  20. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
  21. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of facilities construction operations, equipment and standards.
  2. Knowledge of construction safety practices and protocols.
  3. Knowledge of construction management practices.
  4. Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws that govern the work area managed.
  5. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
  6. Knowledge of quality improvement, budgetary and financial methods and practices.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.
  9. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.
  10. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
  11. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
  12. Ability to schedule, direct, counsel and evaluate construction contractor work performance.
  13. Ability to develop written policies and procedures, memoranda and performance evaluations with measurable behaviors.
  14. Ability to effectively lead and manage multiple concurrent projects while meeting established metrics, including cost and schedule.
  15. Ability to exercise complex analytical judgment in the work environment.
  16. Ability to react and perform work under stressful and emergency situations.
  17. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field of study required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of two (2) years' experience in construction management preferred. Experience working in a regulated industry preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) or Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) certification preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(DOT) - Characterized as light work requiring exertion up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
