Job Summary

****THIS IS NOT A REMOTE POSITION. Position will be located on campus. LINCOLN, NE LOCATION****

Provides support to the patient care team by providing remote continuous observation of multiple patients ensure safety and prevention of injury. Navigates and retrieves information from the electronic medical record. Communicates with members of the healthcare team. Must have the ability to concentrate in a busy environment. Reports to Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, Administrative Manager or Staff Nurse.


*This is not a remote position. Position will be located on campus.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

*Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

*Provides remote continuous observation of multiple patients to ensure safety and prevention of injury.

*Responsible for one-on-one direct, continuous observation for the purpose of injury prevention of patients who might be at high risk to injure themselves or others due to confusion, delirium, self-destructive behavior, or a high likelihood of falling.

  1. *Effectively manages multiple responsibilities, urgent responses and challenging situations.
  2. *Displays proficiency utilizing monitoring technology.
  3. *Navigates and retrieves information from the electronic medical record.
  4. *Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills in collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.
  5. *Notifies member of clinical care team of any change in patient's condition or attempt to harm self.
  6. *Monitors patients continuously, always keeping patient in full view.
  7. *Utilizes respectful verbal cues to elicit patient cooperation.
  8. Participates in general conversation or other distraction activities if desired by patient.
  9. *Communicates patient concerns to oncoming staff at change of shift.
  10. *Notifies bedside staff to correct poor quality monitoring.
  11. *Maintains documentation per procedure.
  12. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  13. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
  14. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.
  2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  4. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.
  6. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.
  7. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
  8. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
  9. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED) required.
